Google has just announced a new update on the Android 5.1 Lollipop that will bring more stable and better performance updates on Android phones, as reported by ABC News. The update, which was released Iast November included new additions to ensure that users will be able to take control of their experiences, with emphasis on "aesthetically pleasing user experience."
In the US, T-Mobile has already begun rolling out the update to owners of Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and Nexus 7 2013 edition, with updates that bring slew of features that can help improve different aspects of the Android devices.
Users of the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop will be able to use more than one SIM card and allows people to share a device or at least control their monthly phone bill better, as noted by Android vice president Dave Burke.
The update also ensures phone safety as Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 devices which are shipped with the 5.1 come with a mechanism that locks stolen or misplaced devices until users sign in with their Google accounts, and is said to work even when the factory settings on the devices were reset.
According to ZD Net, the anti-theft update is a kill switch requirement in the US for Apple Inc, Samsung, and Google, as they all agreed to install a kick that will prevent reactivation of software through unauthorized factory reset settings. This feature will be available for most Android phone and devices installed with the Android 5.1, but not for lower versions.
Finally, the last major update is the high definition voice call, which allows for a clearer phone conversation.
With all these updates, Google has already published the links to the 5.1 update factory images for the Nexus 5, 7, and 10 devices, and is expected to be released via over-the-air (OTA) updates in the coming days. According to ZD Net, the 5.1 images are currently available directly from Google, and now available for download.
Those who want to skip the OTA update can opt to flash these factory images direct from Google.
However, flashing includes technical steps that may not be comfortable for some. Should you wish to install Google's images or other custom builds, the Latino Post will not be responsible for any untoward incident that may arise in the process. Backing-up of files is always recommended.
That being said, Android fans will definitely love the new features of the latest Google mobile OS, but with most devices being unable to upgrade to the Lollipop, it seems that few Android users can enjoy the perks of the new OS for now.
What do you think about the upgrades for the Android 5.1?
