Salma Hayek has backtracked on her previous statement about feminism.
When asked what feminism means to her in a recent interview with The Guardian, Hayek said, "I am a feminist because I love women and I am ready to fight for women. I am a feminist because I am proud to be a woman, and I am passionate about making the world a better place for women. I am a feminist because a lot of amazing women have made me the woman I am today. I am inspired by women every day, as friends and as colleagues."
The 48-year-old actress added, "But -- it should not be just because I am a woman. It should be a reflex, if someone else is being hurt, to help. It shouldn't have to be because you are being a victim too. I work a lot for domestic violence, and people often ask me if I have experienced it. And I say, no, on the contrary -- my father is a great man, my husband is a great man. But we are all human beings, no?"
The Mexican beauty is the founder of Chime-for-Change, an organization that fights for girls' and women's rights and empowerment around the world, Fox News Latino wrote.
Hayek came under fire when she told PEOPLE magazine during the Make Equality Reality event last November that she's "not a feminist."
"If men were going through the things women are going through today, I would be fighting for them with just as much passion. I believe in equality," she added.
Too much pressure on women
The "Everly" star also told The Guardian how much pressure and expectations women are facing every day in the society.
"The amount of pressure on women now, it's crazy. You have to be much better than your male colleagues, just so you can maybe try and get the same salary as them. And you still have to be a good wife and mother. And now you also have to be skinny, and you have to look 20 when you're 40. It's too much," she explained to the news outlet.
New face of Pomellato
Hayek has been chosen as the new face of the prestigious Milanese jewelry brand Pomellato. The campaign, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, was unveiled during Milan Fashion Week 2015, Latin Times reported.
Pomellato is owned by the French luxury company Kering, New York Times noted. The actress' billionaire husband François-Henri Pinault, is Kering's current CEO and Chairman of the board of directors.
Hayek and her husband recently celebrated their six-year wedding anniversary on Valentine's Day, according to Daily Mail. The couple has a seven-year-old daughter named Valentina.
