Production for the drug crime thriller "The Infiltrator" has already launched in London.
The film, which is based on the true story of undercover agent Robert Mazur, will see Bryan Cranston in the titular role. The "Breaking Bad" actor will be joined by John Leguizamo, "The Skin I Live In" star Elena Anaya, Amy Ryan, and Juliet Aubrey of "The White Queen," Deadline reported. German actress Diane Kruger and Benjamin Bratt are also among the cast.
Bratt portrays Roberto Alcanio, Mazur's contact who "dealt directly with cartel board members," We Got This Covered noted.
Production company Good Films has recently provided a teaser photo from the movie showcasing Cranston and Kruger, according to Variety. The image reveals nothing significant about the flick, other than the fact that both actors will be sporting lively fashion choices.
Ellen Brown Furman wrote the screenplay of the film, with Brad Furman of "The Lincoln Lawyer" in the director's chair, Variety noted. It is produced by Good Films' founder Miriam Segal and co-financers Good Films, Bank Leumi, and LipSync.
"Brad and I have invested a great deal of time ensuring that the casting on this film is absolutely perfect, and we feel we've done just that," said Segal, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. "Bryan's talent is immeasurable, and he continues to demonstrate his versatility and skill as an actor. 'The Infiltrator' is a film that demands a dynamic and complex leading man, and we could not be more excited to have him on board.
Mazur became a "pivotal player for drug lords in the 1980s for cleaning their dirty cash," the news outlet noted. He reportedly went undercover as a money launderer and helped infiltrate the bankers behind the Medellin drug cartel through a sting, which turned out to be one of history's most elaborate operations. We Got This Covered added that Mazur was responsible for bringing down notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar.
The movie is based from Mazur's non-fiction novel titled "The Infiltrator: My Secret Life Inside the Dirty Banks Behind Pablo Escobar's Medellin Cartel."
After the principal photography in London, the production crew of "The Infiltrator" will shift to the sunny state of Florida, USA at the end of April, Variety noted.
Relativity International, who will handle the film's foreign sales, said that the company is "thrilled to build our relationship with Good Films and bring 'The Infiltrator' to audiences worldwide."
"We are excited to work with the talented filmmakers and star Bryan Cranston on a film that delivers edge-of-your-seat thrills," said Relativity International president Carmela Galano, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.
