Despite having a 2017 release date, fans are already excited for "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" and a fan even went so far as to ask director James Gunn for details this early: mainly to confirm the appearance of another superhero.
Rumors have been circulating that Captain Marvel will be appearing in the sequel to last year's blockbuster hit, but unfortunately it has been confirmed by the director himself that the Captain will not be appearing
According to Cinema Blend, Gunn is known to share tidbits about his films on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, and his straightforward answers are respected by fans. However, his attitude can also cause some disappointment when he gives definitive answers to theories that fans would have wanted to fantasize about for awhile.
For instance, when Twitter user with the handle @Drunkenshots asked him, "Still wondering if Captain Marvel will appear in #GoTG2" Gunn answered with a direct "no," also noting that the rumor has already been addressed months ago.
This would mean that there is definitely no possibility of Carol Danvers appearing in the film, as Gunn is unlikely to pull a fast one on his fans and neither is he one to hold back.
The possibility of Captain Marvel's appearance came to light when a few months ago, Gunn revealed his intentions on introducing more female superheroes in the "the world of Guardians as soon as he [can]."
But with Captain Marvel out of the question, there are still a slew of strong, female characters that could appear, including Angela, Moondragon, Phyla-Vell, and Mantis, all of whom could possibly be added in the cast alongside other female characters already on board, Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan).
Another big name is expected to be part of the franchise though, Christian Post noted that there is a possibility that Al Pacino will have a role in the film, but so far, no official word has come to light.
While the female characters for "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" are yet to be revealed and there is still no word has been said about Al Pacino's rumored involvement, Gunn did say where they will be filming. When asked about coming back for DragonCon, which is held in Atlanta every year, the director replied, "Maybe. I'm gonna try. Because we're filming in Atlanta, I hope it works out for my schedule."
Comic Book pointed out that it will most likely be filmed be at the new Pinewood Atlanta Studios, which has five soundstages on 288 acres of land. The first to make use of its facilities was also another superhero film: Marvel's "Ant-Man."
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is expected to arrive in theaters on May 5, 2017.
