Sony's highlight entry to this year's Mobile World Congress is the Xperia Z4 Tablet. Many have expected to see the Xperia Z4 smartphone during the event. Nevertheless, the company sure knew how to turn things around, and we could only hope that they turn for the better.

The Xperia Z4 Tablet is indeed surprising for a couple of reasons. To start with, it's seen as a direct competitor to Apple's iPad Air 2, having sported the familiar 6.1 mm thickness. The Cupertino giant dubs this as "impossibly thin," but it looks like the idea has been the opposite for Sony.

One interesting detail about the Xperia Z4 Tablet is its weight. As reported by The Next Web, the device weighs 389 grams -- much lighter than the iPad Air 2, which came at 437 grams for its Wi-Fi model.

It's evident that the new Sony tablet has achieved the right of bearing a title, the same way Apple has branded the "iPad Air."

With this, does the iPad Air remain to deserve its name? After all, we know for a fact that the world's thinnest tablet came from Dell, and now the Xperia Z4 model proves to be lighter.

The question may be best left for customers to decide, but there's one thing Apple fans can all look forward to: the iPad Air 3.

As we've previously noted, the next iPad is expected to be thinner, in response to the possible packing of an A9 processor.

Other purported specs of the iPad Air 3 include 4 GB of RAM, 2 GHz quad-core processor (other rumors point an A9X chip) and color options silver, space grey and gold. In addition, it's expected to have longer battery life -- more than 15 hours to be exact.

The Xperia Z4 Tablet, on the other hand, is powered by a 6,000 mAh battery that delivers 17 hours of video playback, The Next Web wrote.

An additional amount of RAM is certainly appreciated. The iPad Air 2 owns 2 GB, and if this doubles for its successor, users can most certainly expect speedier multitasking and smoother transitioning between softwares. The Xperia Z4 Tablet has 3 GB.

In terms of display, Macworld is convinced that the iPad Air 3 gets a resolution boost. The source says it could "approach" a pixel density of 401 ppi, the same amount packed in the iPhone 6 Plus.

The Xperia Z4 Tablet houses a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.

Prospects could also be eyeing the device's photography features. According to the Venture Capital Post, the iPad Air 3's camera is touted to come at 13 MP, while its front snapper is pegged to capture at 5 MP. As for the Xperia Z4 Tablet, 8.1 MP in the rear and 5.1 MP in front are enough.
