Jada Pinkett-Smith makes an excellent villain, as she proved on the series, "Gotham." However, it seems that fans of Fish Mooney will have to stop holding their breath hoping that she's returning next season.

Deadline reported that the actress said on ABC's "Live With Kelly & Michael" that she's only signed on for a year, "and the year is up." When asked if she's ever returning to the show, she said, "I don't think so," which sent a fans to a flurry online.

The website was able to confirm that Pinkett-Smith did only sign a one-year deal for "Gotham" last year, which means that her contractual obligations have already been fulfilled. Although there is no news as to what will happen in season 2, there may be a possibility that she could still be seen occasionally on the show.

When asked to comment about her future in the show, producers were equally coy, saying, "Fish Mooney's storyline takes a lot of interesting twists and turns into the finale of season one of Gotham." However, they refused to add further comments regarding the issue.

As noted by Seattle Pi, Pinkett-Smith's Mooney began as one of the top lieutenants for crime Boss Carmine Falcone, and was the boss of Oswald Cobblepot, known as "Penguin." However, Penguin foiled her plans of taking over the crime family from Falcon, and she left Gotham City to hide, lest she be killed. Since leaving the city, she has fallen in the hands of another villain, Dr. Dulmacher.

She may possibly be leaving the show, but she had a blast playing the role of a villain, saying on "Live" that she gets to "play a character who gets to do extreme things. She's evil - that's always fun. I'm having a good time."

Variety noted that because Mooney is the only character that was not based on the "Batman" comics, she is the only major villain in the series in which the fates are yet unknown. Her stellar performance on the series earned her a star as far as "Gotham" fans are concerned, so killing her off, if ever, may be a controversial choice for the producers.

But then again, that is just one possibility out of the many in regards to Mooney's arc. The Hollywood Reporter noted that if "Gotham" producers choose to leave her to plot her revenge, she could still appear in future episodes on a similar arc with Cobblepot from this season. On the other hand, if she does get killed, the next big villain, the Dollmaker, will be established properly for season 2.

What do you think will happen to Mooney in future "Gotham" episodes?
