Here's one pair that would remind a die-hard Kevin Durant fan about his idol: KD 7 "Weatherman."
On March 5, at 10 a.m. EST (7 a.m. PST), Nike.com will begin selling for $150 the new KD 7 colorway, which finds inspiration in Durant's liking for meteorology. Its listed color combo is Emerald Green/Dark Emerald/Total Orange/Metallic Silver, with style code 653996-303.
According to the website's explanatory piece, the option -- to be sold at a limit of one pair per customer -- fitted the goings-on in a newsroom into the shoe's skin.
The green upper is akin to the green screens on which forecasts are projected, while the graphics wrapping the back half of the shoe are Doppler-inspired, all to refer to Durant's childhood dream to be a meteorologist, noted Sneaker News.
The midfoot strap, laces and outsole are rendered in strong orange. A dark-green midsole bears the Nike Zoom assurance. The KD emblem is on the tongue, the signature on the insole, and the Swoosh on two spots, rendered in gray and neon green.
Even the bottom of the shoe is out to impress, with the abstract prints and the oval hole, which seems to give a sneak peak to the inside of the shoe.
Sneaker News noted that the model can also be had through eBay, although with markups, and Sneaker Politics. Also try Kixify.
The design was revealed by the Oklahoma City Thunder superstar in June, and connects to the KD 4 "Weatherman" in 2011, it added. On Nike.com, there is a customization option for the KD 7.
According to Kicks on Fire, after the 2011 release, fans were wondering what model would carry the theme next, and describes the KD 7 "Weatherman" design as "very bold" and "elaborate."
It also quipped that the look strongly suggested that if Durant wasn't busy with the ball, he'd be on air for the local news channel.
The people at Nike could not have enough of the meteorology aspect, plus the general lightning and thunder themes, noted Sports Illustrated.
Slam Online commented that it could be one of the best versions churned out from the inspiration. The Latin Post agrees, noting that the option might just make waves like its predecessors in the KD 7 line.
Uproxx, after being reminded by a Durant joke on Instagram, noted that the new shoes' colors were definitely eye-popping.
But despite the glowing reviews, there are mixed emotions from the consumer side.
On Sneaker News, a comment reads: "trash!!!!" It also has a 2.83 of 5 average from six voters.
On Sole Collector, a commenter noted, "Not as nice as the original Weathermen, that's for sure."
"These look really fresh! It reminds me some of the Lebron 9 Cannon as well. It's about time they got a fresh color way and used a unique graphic the right way," said a commenter on Shopawol, which promises to carry the model. "Nice work."
