Just so the fans know that they've done a good job welcoming him back into the Timberwolves fold, Kevin Garnett purchased 1,000 tickets to the team's next game, all for free distribution.
"As a gesture of thanks, I would like to treat some fans to Monday night's game against the [Los Angeles] Clippers. Love you all, and thanks for the love. Enjoy the game on me," Garnett said in the statement, quoted by ESPN.
In the statement, the 15-time All-Star power forward had described the trade transfer as "nothing short of amazing" and "unbelievable."
He was traded before the trade deadline to the team with which he spent the initial 12 years of his career, Business Insider explained in a report, and fans have gone crazy for it.
Thus, the first 500 fans to claim the tickets on the team's website Monday morning will get a pair of tickets to witness the action go down as they host the Clippers in the evening, ESPN explained.
NBA.com said that the tickets will be available at 9 a.m., only via the link above.
It added that the freebies can be claimed outside the Timberwolves executive offices on Monday 4-6 p.m., on the Skyway Level of Target Center, where the match will happen.
The welcome was "remarkable," explained Brad Ruiter, Timberwolves VP for communications, in a video accompanying the ESPN report. "The timing worked out really well to do it now."
Ruiter commented: "I think people hear in his press conference last week, I think, the genuineness of him wanting to be here, waiving his no-trade clause, basically saying this is the only team he's waived that for."
The Business Insider explained that his trade electrified a Minnesota fan base that has never lost the fervor for him, even as he nearly closes his playing career.
The highest earning NBA player also reportedly wants to buy into the Timberwolves franchise, Business Insider said in another report.
He was also quoted by Boston Globe on his intent: "Hopefully one day in the near future, I don't know -- the next five, 10 years -- I'm into management, I'm into ownership..."
According to the report, his trade was a perfect ending for his career.
It noted that, at the inception of his professional career, he was taken straight out of high school and into the league by the Timberwolves, and that he and the franchise had a falling out when in 2007 he was traded to the Boston Celtics.
Therefore, it explained, it was a good change of heart for him to finally go home to Minnesota, a team that has been rebuilt four times and still hasn't found its big break.
"I will say it does feel like full circle ... But coming back I feel like I have not only something to give but I'm experienced," he told Boston Globe. "I know these are the declining days of my playing days but I think I have so much more to bring. This is the perfect situation, this is full circle right here."
