Cristiano Ronaldo was forced by giant sportswear brand Nike to remove his new trainer collection from his CR7 line.

According to a report from Daily Mail, Nike had to ask the 30-year-old footballer to withdraw his line of trainers because it competed directly to the clothing company's own footwear collection. Ronaldo is in a £5.5m lucrative sponsorship deal with Nike.

Daily Mail further reported that Nike had no issue with the Real Madrid star promoting his own brand of clothing, smart suit-shoes, and casual loafers, but the athlete's new line of footwear seemed to be the exception. Ronaldo's trainers are reportedly shelved at the moment, the news outlet wrote.

"Ronaldo's agreement with Nike means he must wear the label whenever he is not contractually obliged to do otherwise - as is the case when he plays for Real Madrid whose kit-makers are Adidas," Daily Mail added.

The Portuguese footballer released the CR7 Footwear last year in collaboration with Portugal Footwear, Mirror Online noted. The shoe brand is reportedly based on Ronaldo's "identity, image and behaviour" and is targeting the premium end of the footwear market rather than "the many styles of trainers usually associated with sports stars." The footwear designs were showcased in Las Vegas and the Milan Shoe Fair recently, the outlet added.

Aside from Ronaldo, other footballers who also ventured into the fashion scene are Queens Park Rangers center-back Rio Ferdinand and David Beckham for #5 and Instinct clothing lines, respectively, Mirror Online listed.

Cristiano Ronaldo Bares Muscular Physique For CR7

In early February, Ronaldo's new spring/summer range of CR7 was unveiled. The Real Madrid star's well toned body can be seen in the promotional images.

You can take a look at Ronaldo's photos on the clothing line's website. The pictures are also accompanied by 15 health and fitness tips from the player as a commemoration of the 2015 line.

One reads: "I always make sure I have good music to listen to. It helps you zone out, get motivated and do your best. I like to listen to hip hop and reggaeton," as quoted by a report from Fox News Latino.

"Fit in exercise wherever you can. You can do an abs workout in your bedroom when you wake up in the morning or before you go to bed," another one says. The brand's name, CR7, was a combination of Ronaldo's initials and his uniform number.

Ronaldo's premium underwear line was first launched in 2013, a separate report from Daily Mail stated. The recently released SS15 line is the third collection of the line; the only difference now is that he incorporated tips and advice on how to achieve a muscular body like his.
