The Chicago Bulls is still in shock after they announced that star player Derrick Rose would be needing surgery again on his right knee.
Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau told ESPN that he feels that the situation is "just so unfair."
"A guy's been through so much and you know what he's put into it. This one, any time you have surgery it's tough, but hopefully this one will be much shorter than the other ones. The big thing is our concern for him first as a person," Thibodeau said.
Meanwhile, Kirk Hinrich who replaced Rose on the roster after his injury said he could still not believe the recent setback in the NBA player's career.
"Just really feeling for him. Initially ... I mean I'm still shocked. I didn't have any idea that he had an injury like that in practice. I can't imagine what he's gone through these last three years and just when it seems like he was hitting his stride, playing great, the team felt like he probably had put it behind him, for this to happen, it's just devastating," Hinrich told USA Today.
Teammate Pau Gasol, on the other hand, tagged the situation as "heartbreaking" since Rose has been one of the biggest contributors in the games with his 18.4 points per game average.
The team noted that Rose will undergo a surgical operation after he tore the medial meniscus in his right knee for the second time in 15 months. ESPN said his status on the team will remain hanging until after his surgery.
A lot of his fans are hoping that he will be able to return as soon as possible to the court, six weeks perhaps, after his surgery but the Bulls is not keeping the public's hope high.
According to ESPN, this operation will be his third surgery on his knee since 2012. He first tore his left-knee ACL then the following year tore the meniscus of his right knee which hindered him from completing the games of the season.
The same report noted that unlike his two previous injuries, Rose didn't go down on the floor but his performance in the games have been very much affected with what he called as "lower body soreness." He missed 12 of 13 shots during the Bulls' victory against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Some reports estimated that the repair of his once broken meniscus would take a longer rehabilitation time and that would mean a longer time out from basketball for Rose. This would not be a problem to Thibodeau who reiterated that Rose's health means a lot to them.
"He's been through a lot. He's had to endure a lot. And he's gotten past a lot. It's disappointing news, and we're hopeful that everything will work out fine. Initially, the last procedure he had on the meniscus, we knew this was a possibility. So unfortunately it didn't take. Now they have to go back in and take care of it. We knew that it could happen, and it did. But our concern is with Derrick. I think you guys know how we all feel about him, the organization, the players, everybody. So it's tough news," ESPN quoted the coach as saying.
