The first openly gay football player, Michael Sam, will soon be seen on TV showcasing his dance moves as a report indicated his participation in the Season 20 of "Dancing with the Stars".
An exclusive TMZ report said that the show will start next month and will feature Sam, a proud member of the LGBT community who recently got engaged to his boyfriend Vito Cammisano.
TMZ, however, raised a concern on this TV guesting as the football player also expressed his intention to re-join the NFL after he got cut from the roster of the St. Louis Rams which drafted him and was released by the Dallas Cowboys from their practice squad.
Yahoo Sports added that NFL players who showed good performance on the said TV show include retired footballer Hines Ward and NFL running back Emmitt Smith, who won the competition. Other notable players who won second place in the competition are Jerry Rice, Jason Taylor, and Warren Sapp.
If Sam indeed signs up for the show, then will this hinder his comeback to the NFL? This was the same question posed by Yahoo Sports that noted that some teams may lose interest in making him part of their roster if he is busy with other activities.
In a similar Fox Sports report, it was noted that his participation in the show "does put into question his future in the NFL, even for next season."
The report added that Sam shared that he has been training vigorously for the upcoming NFL veterans combine and said that he has remained focus in getting back to the NFL.
"I'm working hard hone my craft. I've heard the critiques on my game, both positive and negative, and I am constantly striving to be the best football player I can be. I'm using the latest performance technology coupled with good old-fashioned sweat to improve my explosiveness to help get around the edge, my flexibility to make me more versatile and, of course, my strength, hands, coordination and various techniques that I use at my position," he said in a separate Fox Sports report.
Sam also reiterated that his sexual preference has not affected his being chosen by the team as he still believes in his talent.
"I don't believe that being gay has kept me off an NFL roster, but I will challenge anyone who says I don't have the talent to make it in the league," he added.
Looking forward to the coming months, Sam will be making some huge decisions in his life which will measure his determination to either go back to the NFL or pursue other things in life after the rejections he experienced in the past.
