For those who were charmed by Marvin the Martian in their childhood, March 7 will be a chance to rekindle that wonder, as an Air Jordan 7 colorway inspired by the cartoon character will hit the sneaker market. Weeks after that, Nike will release a remastered version of the Air Jordan 10 "Chicago."
Earlier this month, Nike Blog announced that after 23 years, it will again team up with Warner Bros. to mark the third decade of the Air Jordan franchise.
While the partnership is not going to remake the widely popular "Space Jam," the story that followed Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny's friendship, the two will reintroduce the iconic Hare Jordan product line, it noted.
Premiering in 1992, just after Jordan claimed his first NBA title, the line will once again launch in 2015, in both footwear and apparel, the article noted.
The "Marvin the Martian" could very much be the inaugural model of a host of Bugs Bunny and Looney Tunes Air Jordan 7s, so we could expect more colorways in that bloodline, said Sole Collector.
Basing on the modern aesthetic, another Nike Blog report noted, the colorway would not seem like a Looney Tunes collaboration.
Weartesters explained that the product was instead inspired by "Barcelona Nights," when Jordan wore the 7s as Team USA won a gold, basing on a TSG report.
The naming confusion had to do with licensing issues, noted Sneaker News, commenting that the bright colors breaking the black base come off as cartoonish, opposite Nike Blog's opinion. The inspiration is irrelevant, the Weartesters report noted, however, as the important thing is the pair looks nice.
The upper is blacked out with leather and nubuck, while pops of other colors dominate the tongue, heel, midsole and outsole. Listed with a Black/Infrared 23-Graphite-Retro color combination, with style number, it will sell for $190. Try pre-ordering at SneakerCrew.
For the same price point, the remastered Air Jordan 10 "Chicago," or "Double Nickel," will be available, said Sneaker Bar Detroit. It will be out on March 28, the same date in 1995 that Jordan scored 55 "Double Nickel" points against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
That was also the same time Jordan switched to the number "45," noted Kixify. According to the Sneaker Bar Detroit report, the colorway was last released in 2012 but, with the remastering movement, it comes back with better quality and approximating its original release -- including the '45' embroidered on the lateral ankle.
Kixify, which sells the color option, noted that the "Chicago" is among the most in-demand colorways since 1995. It was also re-released in 2005. Also try your luck on e-Bay.
Kixify noted that its biggest come-on is the Black/Red checkered inner sock lining. It also has historical detailing on the outsole -- a list of Jordan's greatest accolades.
