It hasn't been long since we were introduced to the newest GoPro Hero 4. At present, it wouldn't be surprising to hear prospects still making up their minds, torn between its Black and Silver editions that do not just differ in color but special features as well.

Making the right purchase could therefore be difficult, but it all boils down to one's preferences. The Black edition certainly captures more frames per second than its Silver counterpart, but the latter offers something else the former doesn't -- a built-in LCD screen.

Nevertheless, the young age of Hero 4 hasn't stopped rumor mills from churning once again, this time aimed at the camera's successor. As far as talks had been concerned, it's called the GoPro Hero 5.

We've curated the latest speculations over the alleged device to see how they fare with the current GoPro flagship/s:

Release Date

Before we get into specs, note that the GoPro Hero 5 is touted to launch the earliest in September. According to the Gospel Herald, all previous GoPro models have arrived in September or October, so the outlet is pretty much convinced that the next flagship comes just around the same time.

Videography

From our previous report, the GoPro Hero 5 is rumored to shoot with as much as 8K resolution. This time, reports have it that the camera packs an advanced processor that yields resolution at the same frame rate.

As told by the Gospel Herald, the camera is believed to feature an A10 chip, which would allow it to record 4K videos at a rate of 60 frames per second (fps). The source indicated that prospects could expect 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps. Quite stunning, don't you think?

Priced at $499, the Hero 4 Black is able to shoot 4K videos at the rate of 30 frames per second. On the other hand, the $100-cheaper Hero 4 Silver captures videos in two settings: 1080p at 60 frames per second or 720p at 120 frames per second.

Photography

The GoPro Hero 5 comes with a dual-lens set-up, The Fuse Joplin (TFJ) said. The source added that the device is purported to enable 3D technology support.

For a recap, both Black and Silver editions of the Hero 4 shoot images with a 12 MP sensor at 30 fps.

Waterproof Capacity

The GoPro Hero 5 is expected to withstand an underwater depth of up to 60 meters. If this holds truth, the device is put to an advantage against its predecessors, which are able to go 40 meters underwater.

Battery

For action-sports cameras such as GoPro, the ability to last long hours is all wanted. The Hero 5 is believed to house a 2800 mAh battery, increasing the current models' battery life by up to 1.5 times (150%). KpopStarz said this battery is "less than an inch thicker."

Both Black and Silver edition Hero 4s came with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery rated at 1160 mAh.

Other Features & Price

Other expected features of the GoPro Hero 5 include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and an HDMI port. It's touted to sell around $400 to $500, TFJ noted.
