Oklahoma City (OKC) Thunder forward Kevin Durant will again be sidelined for about a week after he had a minor surgical procedure on his right foot.

OKC general manager Sam Presti announced that Durant's condition will be evaluated after seven days to see if he can already continue playing, ESPN said.

Presti also explained that the procedure was mainly to lessen the pain and discomfort Durant was feeling on his surgically repaired foot.

"There's no new injury that's been created. It's just a matter of discomfort," the team's general manager clarified.

Last October, the OKC star had surgery to repair a Jones fracture on his right foot which Presti claimed is now healing. But the OKC general manager explained that one of the screws attached to the foot has been rubbing another bone and now causing Durant pain and a lot of discomfort.

"Some pain in or around that cuboid bone is not unusual. It's actually somewhat expected during the recovery process. But in Kevin's case, it wasn't scaling down the level we had anticipated or the level the physicians had anticipated. So the next step would be to look at some other alternatives, which led us to this procedure," Presti added, as quoted in the ESPN report.

In a similar Yahoo Sports article, Presti said that Durant took the opportunity to have the screw in his right foot replaced so that it will not cause anymore pain while he's playing in the coming NBA games.

"The fracture itself is healing excellently by all accounts and we continue to feel good about the prognosis moving forward, but in the short term as he continued to have this discomfort, we wanted to determine the best way to alleviate it while still promoting the continued healing of the initial injury," Presti said in the statement sent to the media.

The player initially felt pain and soreness in his foot, during their win against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday. Yahoo Sports said he was benched during their match versus the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday with Kyle Singler replacing him. The discomfort, however, has been there for quite a while as ESPN said that Durant felt pain in his foot two weeks ago when he played against the Memphis Grizzlies. Still, he tried to "play through" it.

This is another set back to the OKC player's career as he has already missed 28 games this season because of injuries like right ankle and big toe sprain which affected his attendance in the games.

With him out for a week again, Presti said they are hopeful that he will be able to heal fast and play during the regular season for him to be able to contribute to the victory of the team.
