Depending on how you liked Missy, it will either be good or bad news for Whovians to know that she's back for Season 9.

TV Line reported that executive producer Steven Moffat said in a statement that because she was an instant hit last season, Michelle Gomez will be returning for her role as "the Master" for season 9 - for the first episode anyway.

It has been noted by TV.com that Gomez's return as The Master at the end of last season has divided Doctor Who fans around the globe, with fans excited to see the return of the character, at the same time wary of Moffat trolling fans as they begged for a female Doctor.

As for Gomez, she was psyched at getting another chance of being The Master. She said, "Things have been a little beige since I left Missy behind, so I'm delighted to be putting my lippie back on. I'm positively dying to see The Doctor again!"

It's not just Missy who will be back for the two-part season premiere. According to website Coming Soon, it has also been confirmed that Jemma Redgrave, who plays the role of Kate, will also be returning, as will Kelly Hunter, the Shadow Architect from the fourth season.

It will be a big comeback season as confirmed guest stars include Daniel Hoffmann-Gill, Jami Reid-Quarrell, Aaron Neil, India Ria Amarteifio, Joey Price, Dasharn Anderson, Harki Bhambra and Demi Papaminas.

There will be a lot of surprises waiting for Whovians in the new season though, as cast members as well as Steven Moffat have been throwing little hints all over. Cultbox UK noted Moffat being mysterious about the Doctor's companion when he said, "As to changing it up with the companion [being a young female from present day Earth] ... Wait and see. We absolutely could vary it."

Peter Capaldi, who plays the Twelfth Doctor, also suggested changes in his character when he said, "I think [the Doctor] probably will be different again when he comes back [in Season 9] ... we're still pushing to find out who this character is - there are more mysteries about him."

While casting and production is on the way, there is one downside though - it seems that celebrated author Neil Gaiman will not be writing for Season 9, although he hasn't completely thrown that possibility aside. Cultbox reported that Gaiman said, "I'm not writing for Series 9 right now, just because of ridiculous work commitments I'm trying to get out from under. I am determined to write for Peter Capaldi. As long as Peter is Doctor Who, I will write for him."

Hopefully, he will have time to pen an episode soon.

Doctor Who will return for its ninth season in the fall of 2015.
