Aside from spending time with her twins, Max and Emme, Jennifer Lopez's Valentine's Day celebration was made even sweeter when she was featured in a TV special which is close to her heart.
The TBS special, titled "Neighborhood Sessions With Jennifer Lopez," put the spotlight on the performer's journey as she visited the Bronx borough of New York where she grew up in, E! News reported.
"This is where it all started for me," Lopez shared in the TV special while driving past the Bronx area with her 6-year-old twins, Max and Emme. "I was walking these streets and thinking about what I wanted my life to be and dreaming about singing and dancing and acting and how could I make that happen from here."
Cameras trailed the singer-actress as she showed her children around, particularly in the local Boys & Girls Club where she spent a lot of time in when she was a child.
"It was surreal to take them back there and show them like, 'When I was a little kid this is where I used to run around, and this was like the best place in the world to me,' and them looking around like, 'Really? This place?' But it was true," Lopez said, as quoted by Fox News Latino.
She describes her childhood days in Bronx as "wonderful," E! News added. The Boys & Girls Club she was a part of had a dance club, and it was where she dreamed of being a star. Lopez admitted that at first, her dreams appeared to be "far-fetched," but at the same time, her aspirations "were bigger than the idea that it couldn't be done."
"There was nothing bad about that place," the performer added, referring to Bronx. "It's what shaped me and made me who I am."
The "On the Floor" singer also revealed that it's important for her to show everyone where she came from. Up to now, she claims that her preferences, outlook, fashion style, attitude, and everything about her are heavily influenced by her Bronx upbringing, Fox News Latino noted.
Before staging her concert at the Orchard Beach in July, Lopez had never performed in the Bronx because of the lack of a real venue, Fox News Latino continued. Her only regret about her Bronx concert was the location's limited space "because she wanted to accommodate everyone who wanted to be there," the news outlet explained.
She added, "I've gone out into the world and I've done all these things but it's because of the stability and the footing that I got from my family and the Bronx that made me be able to go out and handle all this craziness."
"Neighborhood Sessions" is a new show where musical artists highlight the communities where they come from, Fox News Latino noted.
