Vince Vaughn will be replacing Matthew McConaughey for the second season of HBO's hit series, "True Detective," but the actor said he isn't feeling the pressure to match up to the first season's numbers and performance.

When asked on whether he feels pressured to do as well as season 1 stars, Vaughn told Playboy, "Honestly, no, because Nic Pizzolatto is such a great writer, and so much of this is driven by his stories."

He also noted that his "True Detective" story will be vastly different from that of McConaughey and Woody Harrelson's, adding, "I thought Woody and Matthew did an exceptional job with the first season. This one's very different, though. It's a totally different story, with its own characters."

Vaughn assures fans that the show is still top-notch, saying, "The thing that's consistent is the richness of the characters and the quality of the material. That was Louisiana. This is a California-based story, and it was kind of birthed from here. A lot of it is set in Los Angeles."

According to the Coming Soon, "True Detective" Season 2 centers around three police officers and a criminal who will have to figure out the conspiracy related to a murder. Vaughn is the career criminal, Frank Semyon, who is in danger of losing everything as the murder of his business partner threatens to upend his move to a more legitimate enterprise.

Speaking about how he landed the role for the sophomore season of the highly acclaimed series, Vaughn admitted that he met with the writer and creator, Nic Pizzolatto. He shared, "I met with Nic about writing it. He was really enthusiastic but was already working on a crime drama set in Los Angeles, and he gracefully said it was best for him to focus on True Detective. Then he reached out to me about doing that series, and I was beyond flattered and thrilled to collaborate with him. I was happy to work with Colin Farrell too, whom I'd never worked with before."

Along with Vaughn are Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch. Farrell is Ray Velcoro, a detective who is not sure where his loyalty lies - in the corrupt police department, or to the mobster who basically owns him.

McAdams is Ani Bezzerides, a very upright detective who refuses to compromise ethics, putting her at odds with other people she works with. Finally, Kitsch is Paul Woodrugh, war veteran and motorcycle officer for the Highway Patrol, running from the past and into a scandal.

"True Detective" will be back for season 2 in the summer of 2015 on HBO. Check out this (unofficial) trailer:
