"Mario Maker" is a Wii-U-exclusive, interactive course builder announced in last year's E3. As posted on Nintendo's official site, prospects can expect its arrival in the first half of 2015.

Using the Wii U's GamePad controller, the game allows anyone to create and customize his own 2D levels -- a Mario experience like never before. If you're into 2D platformers and creative construction, we've detailed some of the game's most interesting features below.

Stages at your fingertips

"Mario Maker" grants players the ability to build their own 2D Super Mario stages, from classic props and items loved by generations of Mario fans. Elements may be dragged and dropped to one's convenience.

As Nintendo Life described it, the game has a similar concept with PlayStations' "LittleBigPlanet" franchise. Certainly, every player's creativity is put to the test as he tries to craft obstacles, terrains and challenges, all in the realms of a colorful Mario world.

Switching Styles

Players will have the ability to switch between four different graphic styles. Customized levels will be viewable in any of these. Transitioning from the classic 8-bit "Super Mario Bros." visuals to the HD look of "New Super Mario Bros. U" is made possible by the game.

Edited creations may be instantly play-tested. If something's not working, Nintendo advises players to tap a button to get into edit mode at once.

Shareable Creations

Players won't be enjoying their customized levels only for themselves, as Cinema Blend stated that they're actually shareable among friends.

In fact, producer Takashi Tezuka said course creations may be shared with the rest of the "Mario Maker" userbase. This appears to be an online system, probably similar to "Pushmo World."

Modes and Music

"Mario Maker" has a sound director and main composer, IGN reported. The outlet spoke with Koji Kondo, who revealed that his focus is to provide a "seamless transition" between the game's two modes: one where the user plays his created course and the "actual creation mode."

The composer explained that the game has utilized different ensembles, such as drums, piano and a base track.

"We also want to make sure that players, who will be spending a lot of time in the edit mode creating their levels, don't get tired of the music," he added.

Unfortunately, players won't be able to create their own sound. Nevertheless, USgamer said Tezuka hopes to include a music composition feature, so we'll definitely be on the lookout.
