Spider-Man will be a high school student in the first of a new batch of films for the franchise, according to Ace Showbiz.
After the formal announcement of a new pact being agreed upon between Sony and Marvel, reports say Andrew Garfield will no longer be reprising his role as Spider-Man.
No word yet on who would be Garfield's replacement, but it will be a much younger actor to account for the franchise's new timeline, according to Ace Showbiz.
Early entrants into the pool of candidates to replace Garfield in the iconic role include Logan Lerman of "Fury" fame and Dylan O'Brien who starred in last year's film "The Maze Runner," the report added.
Versions of films from the Spider-Man franchise starring Garfield and Tobey Maguire also used a high school setting before, but the plan for the new film is to focus more on the superhero's experiences during this time in his life, according to Variety.
In addition to a new man wearing the costume, there are talks that a new director will also be at the helm for the franchise reboot. The new director will replace Marc Webb. He directed both "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2."
Another drastic change to the franchise could also come in the form of the comic book personality who plays the masked superhero.
Sony has not yet decided on whether they want to restart the franchise with Peter Parker as the hero or if they want to go in a different direction and have Miles Morales be the new man, according to Variety.
Morales took over the role of Spider-Man after the death of Peter Parker, as seen in Marvel comic books.
Morales has an African-American father and a Puerto Rican mother, according to Marvel's character description page.
Marvel has expressed a desire to introduce the new Spider-Man as early as 2016. He would then debut in the film "Captain America: Civil War" if the plans go on schedule, according to Variety.
"Captain America: Civil War" set for release on May 6, 2016 features Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role as Iron Man and Chadwick Boseman making his debut in the franchise as the Black Panther, Ace Showbiz reported. Because of the new plans for the Spider-Man franchise, the movie "The Sinister Six" featuring some of the superhero's most famous adversaries is now delayed, the report added.
The still unnamed Spider-Man movie is set to be released on July 28, 2017.
