Instead of receiving greetings during his 30th birthday, Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo got criticisms from angry fans who were obviously upset with the party he threw hours after losing to Atletico Madrid.

On Thursday, Ronaldo turned a year older and it was natural for him to celebrate it with his teammates. Yahoo Sports said a video of the party showed Ronaldo enjoying and having a good time while singing with a performer on stage.

"How could he do such a thing? They had lost! Badly!" Yahoo Sports quoted angry fans as saying.

In an effort to defend Ronaldo, the soccer player's agent Jorge Mendes explained, in an interview with Spanish radio station Cadena SER, that the Real Madrid star was angry with his team's loss. "He was very angry. Any player that loses a game - and more so Ronaldo, who is a great professional, who continues to be the best professional in the world - would be angry," said Mendes, as quoted by Yahoo Sports.

To explain why the party was pushed through despite their loss, Mendes said that it was organized about a month ago and that some of his family members even came from abroad just to attend the event.

"He didn't want to cancel out of respect for the people that came. ... Ronaldo was devastated after the defeat and people spent two hours trying to cheer him up," Mendes added.

But some reports said that the video clip of the party did not show even a hint of devastation on Ronaldo's face.

According to The Guardian, Ronaldo was able to make 28 goals and set up nine more to maintain Real Madrid's lead in the standings.

"It's very difficult to be Cristiano. In life, there are good times and times when things don't go as well. The problem is Cristiano has accustomed people badly because 99% of the times he does extremely well," Mendes also said during the radio interview.

Ronaldo's agent added that the player decides games and does everything. But during tough times, he said that the Real Madrid star would expect people to stand by him.

Celebrating after a loss could not be taken against Ronaldo especially if it is his birthday. Things like that cannot really be avoided but the work-life balance of an athlete must remain. Yahoo Sports shared the same sentiments as it noted that "professional athletes are well within their rights to go about their night normally, even after a loss."

It was also his way of, maybe, coping with what happened earlier during the game and a chance to spend time with his family. Throwing a party like that also has no bearing on Ronaldo's talents or his performance on the field. Maybe fans should just support the player and be there for him even if they think he is already committing a mistake.
