The film based on EL James's erotic novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey" is finally coming to theaters this weekend, but it seems that despite the success of the trilogy, the film remains to be a disappointment, at least that's what some websites think.

For those who are unfamiliar with the story, it follows college student Anastasia Steele and young billionaire Christian Grey, as they embark on a BDSM relationship that could make S&M Rihanna proud.

Vanity Fair noted that "Fifty Shades" is a lot tamer than what people expect it to be, making it short on the promise of a sex fantasy, which, depending on one's take on sexual scenes could either be good or bad.

USA Today said that there is "nil" chemistry between Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, who play the lead roles Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. The website even noted that for most of the film, Dornan spent his time frowning, while Johnson is doing a Kristen Stewart in the Twilight Saga move by staring vacantly into space and biting her lip constantly.

The film is not earning praises from Fox News, either. The news site slammed on the story's plot, the director, and the screenplay writer. On the director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, the website called the plot mediocre, the characters bland, and the general tone of the story tepid.

It also expressed disappointment in the way Taylor-Johnson treated the film - serious as opposed to the funny and satirical story that it was supposed to be. Even the screenplay was not spared, called out for being devoid of message or meaning.

The "Fifty Shades of Grey" film has been on the radar for a long time now, and a lot of people are excited to watch it. However, despite the enthusiasm from fans, it has been noted by the Independent that moviegoers in the US are banned from taking "50 Shades" related props to screenings.

Ryan Noonan, spokesperson for AMC Theaters said, "While we welcome those guests who want to show their excitement for a film by dressing up in costume, we do not permit weapons (real or fake), or props/costumes that would make guests uncomfortable, or detract from the moviegoing experience".

Despite the controversy that the film brought - it ignited anti-domestic violence campaigns in the US last week - ticket sales are still soaring as website Fandango claimed that pre-sales already put the erotic film on the top-five R-rated movies.
