"WrestleMania 31" will prove that WWE chairman Vince McMahon listens to fans after all, if reports are to be believed.
Original plans for the extravaganza's main event are now being abandoned in favor of what fans have been clamoring for, noted Wrestling News.co.
By this decision, the Daniel Bryan vs. Dolph Ziggler match will be off the table as Bryan is elevated to a three-way main event, the report said. It explained that McMahon was cancelling it out as an option just two weeks ago because it had been done in the past year -- a Triple-Threat match among Bryan, Randy Orton and Batista, per iDigital Times.
Explaining the shift, Inquisitr said the fans were against the turnout at the recent "Royal Rumble" pay-per-view in Philadelphia.
In particular, they were against Roman Reigns' win, which gave him a ticket to the main event against current World Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, it explained.
Reigns, Inquisitr added, was the guy to take John Cena's spot in the WWE universe. However, the fans, after the elimination of Bryan, "hijacked" the match.
Reigns's victory was also welcomed by boos, Sporting News recalled.
That act started McMahon thinking, and according the Wrestling News.co, the plan has been changed to Bryan vs. Reigns vs. Lesnar after a meeting.
There's a different picture played out by the Inquisitr report.
Bryan won against Seth Rollins on "Monday Night Raw" last week to book himself for the headline match of "WWE Fast Lane." He will face Reigns, and whoever will emerge victorious gets to face Lesnar at "WrestleMania 31."
According to iDigital Times, this storyline is counterproductive, and one that will see fans hating Reigns even more if their favorite falls short yet again.
However, in a poll on WWE.com, as reported WrestlingNews.co, Bryan was really the popular option for the main event. He took the lion's share of 31,676 votes, receiving 87 percent versus Reigns' 13 percent.
So while "WrestleMania 31" at Levi's Stadium on March 29 was supposedly the "Roman Reigns Show" -- a culmination of a multiyear plot -- as iDigital Times put it, it's simply unacceptable for fans.
It's all because of unwise bookings, the report noted. It also added Reigns' absence for a few months due to hernia as a big factor -- his climb to the top was just too fast, it explained.
The overwhelming fan support has affected Bryan's schedule, noted What Culture. Aside from Ziggler, he was also reportedly supposed to face Sheamus.
But it seems that the fans' say is heavy to WWE, with the Inquisitr noting that the lineup will also be a crowd-pleaser.
There's Orton against Rollins; and Triple H versus Sting. Another rumor points to a ladder match for the NXT championship.
With the details yet to be cleared, one thing is for sure: The agenda-setters at WWE, contrary to custom, might from now on, listen to the fans' opinions.
