One of the scariest games to hit the Steam Charts on PC is Scott Cawthon's "Five Nights at Freddy's." It is easy to play, it has a very simple storyline, and it has hundreds of fans who love making up dozens of fan theories.
But what exactly is "Five Nights at Freddy's" and why is it so addictive?
As noted by Kotaku, the game gives you the role of a security guard to watch over a local pizza place. Your goal: just stay alive until morning, preferably for five nights in a row. Sounds easy enough, right? Oh yeah, we forgot to mention that there are psycho toys out there to get you, so you better save on electricity, battery, and you have to be on the lookout because they will appear out of nowhere if you try to blink. Not that it's scary or anything. Also, Freddy is a bear. He's very dangerous but also kind of cute in a creepy way, so he has that working for him.
Why would psycho animatronic animals want to go out and get you, anyway? According to Kotaku, the animatronics think you're supposed to be one of them, and they will try to stuff you in an empty animatronic suit because why would they want you to walk around naked? (See, they're really nice!) But since you're (obviously) not one of them, you're going to die when they stuff you in endoskeletons because you really won't be able to fit in them no matter how hard they try.
The official description, as printed by Coming Soon website said:
Thirty years after Freddy Fazbear's Pizza closed its doors, the events that took place there have become nothing more than a rumor and a childhood memory, but the owners of "Fazbear's Fright: The Horror Attraction" are determined to revive the legend and make the experience as authentic as possible for patrons, going to great lengths to find anything that might have survived decades of neglect and ruin.
At first there were only empty shells, a hand, a hook, an old paper-plate doll, but then a remarkable discovery was made...
The attraction now has one animatronic.
The game was released last year and made its debut on Desura, which is a distribution service. It made the game very popular that it got voted through Steam Greenlight a mere few months later.
And so it blew up, and in another few months, the second game was released on Steam and now, we're off to the third. Yes, the game got so much positive reviews that the third "Five Nights at Freddy's" is ready to be released just a year (more or less) after the first game hit gamers' radar.
According to Gamezebo, the Steam Greenlight page for the game is active, with some interesting screenshots to show for it, but no release date has been set yet for "Five Nights at Freddy's 3," which is a shame. Then again, it's time to make sure you sleep while you can, it's doubtful you can get much Zs when the game finally lets out.
