Chinese manufacturer OnePlus has confirmed the release of its next smartphone flagship, the OnePlus Two, Know Your Mobile reported. According to the outlet, OnePlus CEO Carl Pei and David S. have responded to queries in a Reddit session a few months ago.
Pei said, "OnePlus 2 should be out in Q2 or Q3 of 2015. By that time, I'd think Android L would be standard."
That means the new smartphone could arrive as early as April or as late as September. However, what seems to be disappointing is that the OnePlus Two is pegged to follow the invite-only scheme adopted by its predecessor.
"It will probably be invite-only for a short period of time, after which pre-orders are rolled out," the company stated.
Citing information from the GizChina, Tech Times noted that the OnePlus Two comes with an edge-to-edge display (resulting from ultra-thin bezels) and a thinner build. In addition, the new smartphone is said to sport a familiar 5.5-inch screen, housing a Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels.
This sets the difference from the OnePlus One, which came with a 1920 x 1080 Full HD display.
Other purported specs of the new smartphone include Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 3300 mAh battery, AndroidPIT listed. The outlet added that the device is rumored to have room for more customization features, both within its system and accessory cases.
Interestingly, OnePlus has admitted thinking about trimming the size of its next smartphone. According to Know Your Mobile, some users have complained about the OnePlus One's size, but the company nevertheless assured that its ears are open.
"We've seen a lot of people asking for a smaller device, and want to let everyone know that we hear you. We're thinking about it," OnePlus expressed.
Believed to go under the codename "Lettuce," the OnePlus Two is also allegedly packing a 16 MP main camera and a 5 MP front snapper, Know Your Mobile added, citing @evleaks' claims.
Of course, with no specific details coming from OnePlus, word about specs and features may best be taken with a pinch of salt.
The OnePlus Two might retail for approximately $435, the Tech Times wrote. Such price is seen to be "slightly" more expensive than its predecessor's cost at launch. But the source also claimed that it's expected to be the company's "most advanced smartphone," so a higher price tag may easily be understood.
For its 16 GB and 64 GB versions, the OnePlus One starts at $299 and $349 respectively, AndroidPIT noted.
