Floyd Mayweather Jr. still keeps the public in the dark about the status of the negotiations of his megafight with Manny Pacquiao.
In a recent Instagram post showing him on a hammock beside the beach, the undefeated American fighter wrote: "Laying back, relaxing, enjoying good weather, palm trees and pina coladas. While they continue to lie about making the fight...I'm going to continue to travel and explore the world on my private jet. #FightNotMadeYet"
Complex reported that this new post from Mayweather has shut down the excitement of the people who are eagerly waiting for the final plans on his supposed May 2 fight with Pacquiao. Last year, "The Money" announced that he was ready to fight Pacman and he even set a date for it. Still, the two camps have not been able to settle any details of the fight until now.
The new development on the fight status came out days after Top Rank CEO and Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum announced that details of the fight will be finalized in the coming days.
According to ESPN, the two fighters met privately for more than an hour in Miami to discuss details of the fight. A separate ESPN report said that the two met inside Pacquiao's hotel suite hours after they met during the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks game last Tuesday.
"It was very pleasant and very encouraging, and we give Floyd credit for coming over. That's the first time they ever sat eye to eye. I've met Floyd many times, but he and Manny had never had a chance to meet. They talked at halftime, but this was a longer, more serious meeting. You could tell by their body language that this was very positive. It was for a good hour or more," share Pacquiao's adviser Michael Koncz.
Koncz added that it was more of a "business meeting" where the two boxers gave each other mutual respect.
After the meeting, Arum reportedly announced that they are already fixing some needed papers and finalizing the other details.
"Everybody is doing the right thing. We're looking to complete the paperwork. Everything is moving in the right direction. Hopefully, the next couple of days it will get done," Arum said, as quoted by ESPN.
The Top Rank CEO also said that they are positive that Mayweather really wants to face Pacman in the boxing ring.
"I think it helped a lot because we were all putting papers together, and there was still a question as to whether Floyd really wanted to do the fight or not. Based on the meeting with Pacquiao in the hotel suite, Manny and [Pacquiao adviser] Michael Koncz were convinced Floyd absolutely wants to do the fight," Arum added.
