Mexican icon Vicente Fernández will carry out his farewell concert in Zocalo, Mexico City's largest plaza, "in the middle of this year," Fox News Latino reported.

With the timefame set, the event might be held around June or July.

The ranchera singer, who is also considered as one of the legends in that particular music genre, said that he was readying for the concert with "much emotion," the news outlet noted. Fernández also added that choosing which songs to sing in the event would not be easy, but he promised that his fans are in for a treat.

"I always said that I would like to say farewell there with all of my people," the 74-year-old musician said, as quoted by Fox News Latino. "It is my farewell from the stage and I assure you that it will be something we are not going to forget."

Fernández has been experiencing poor health over the last few years. He cancelled concerts in the United States and Mexico in October 2012 after doctors found a cancerous lump in his liver, according to Fox News Latino. The singer's farewell tour in Mexico, the U.S., Spain, Central America, and South America, was supposed to last for only a year, but it got delayed several times due to his health problems.

"I have been enjoying my home, my family, and I have been working on my albums. And now that I feel very good in terms of my health, I want to say goodbye in cities where I did not have the opportunity to go on my farewell tour," Fernández said, as quoted by Latin American Herald Tribune.

The mariachi music icon, known for his popular hits such as "Mujeres divinas" and "Aca entre nos" also stated that "he planned to retire after completing a farewell tour to spend more time with his family," the news outlet reported.

Fox News Latino stated that an official date for Fernández's final concert isn't announced yet.

Vicente Fernández Death Scare

Last June 2014, a hoax about Fernández's death surfaced on the Internet. According to a report from LA Times, the singer was rumored to have died from a car accident. His press office in Guadalajara denied the claim.

This wasn't the first time that a hoax about Fernández circulated online, LA Times noted. In April 2014, a death prank about the music legend surfaced but was immediately shut down when his son, Vicente Fernández Jr., tweeted a warning that the e-mail claiming his father is dead actually contained a computer virus and should not be opened by curious netizens.
