Android 5.0 Lollipop has been out for a while, but while the software and its updates are still being rolled out to smartphones worldwide, owners of Sony Xperia phones can at least expect their update sooner rather than later, Customs Today reported.

Sony previously announced that a number of their Xperia phones will be getting the Android Lollipop this year and now reports have appeared that the Sony Xperia Z1, Z2 and Z3 will be receiving the update starting this February.

It's likely that the latest, the Xperia Z3, will get the update first, followed by the Xperia Z2. The Xperia Z1 is still going to receive the update, but as it's a much older device, it's likely that it will come a few months after its successors.

The February roll out of the Xperia Z3 was also confirmed earlier this month by Sony COO Michael Fasulo during the CES 2015 press conference held in Las Vegas, according to Android Central.

If users want to get a sneak peek of just what to expect and how the Lollipop will work with the Xperia phones' navigation buttons, Xperia Blog released some screenshots two weeks ago of what the soft buttons of the Xperia will look like when paired with the Lollipop. It also showed a promo of Sony's Movie Creator app.

The full list of Xperia phones to get the Android Lollipop are the Xperia Z, Xperia ZR, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, XperiaZ3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, according to Know Your Mobile.

Sony has yet to release information about the update of their remaining phones, but after kicking off the update with the core Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series, the others are expected to follow.

As for other handsets, the Lollipop was already released to the Motorola G 2013 and 2014 last year, though there have been errors as many users from all over the world have yet to get their update, according to CustomsToday.

The Moto X 2013, Moto E and Droid Mini are still awaiting updates, while the Moto X 2014 already received the update earlier this year.

Users of the HTC One M7 and One M8 will have to wait longer than expected as the company confirmed that unfortunately, they were unable to meet the promised 90 day window of release, the deadline of which is on Feb. 1, according to CNET. Mo Versi, HTC vice president of product management, stated that there were issues with the Lollipop that needed to be addressed before release.
