game publisher Deep Silver has announced the release date of "The Dead Island 2" for Xbox One and PC, and it is to follow the beta version made for PS4, exclusive for 30 days.
According to Cross Map, Deep Silver has confirmed that the beta version will come early, and the Xbox One and PC versions will be available when the exclusive 30-day period for PS4 expires.
The start date for the 30-day PS4 exclusive is yet to be announced, and there is no news whatsoever about the difference between the beta and the final versions of the game - apparently details have been withheld for the mean time.
However, according to KPop Starz, the release dates are slated for as early as spring for the final version, so the beta should be up soon.
For those who want to try the beta version, however, the sites pointed out that only players who were able to pre-order the spinoff game, "Escape Dead Island," will be able to do so. Released back in November, owners of "Escape Dead Island" will have to enter the code that can be found with the game purchase. Those who qualified for beta are to be notified two weeks ahead of the release, with additional instructions for the game.
Cross Map also noted that the new game is still under development at the Yager studio that is responsible for "Special Ops," the game in 2012 that earned plus points for the storytelling factor of the game. This is noted to be a deviation from the usual collaboration with Techland, a polish studio that created Dead Island in 2011, and Dead Island Riptide in 2013.
In a sit-down with Deep Silver creative producer Jan Eric Lauble for an update from IGN, he shared, "The visceral melee combat and the crafting of weapons are areas where we drastically build upon as well. The updated combat system offers way more control and possibilities and the weapon categories offer more variety through different attack types. And new additional features such as the dual wield system provide creative new ways for the player to slaughter zombies. There's nothing better than fighting off hordes of zombies at the Hollywood Hills with an electrified Axe in one Hand and a fire dealing sawed-off shotgun in the other."
He also shared about the system, saying, "The crafting system got improved a lot as well. Players are now able to craft and repair their weapons whenever and wherever they want to avoid annoying backtracking and the new modification system allows players to apply more than one mod to a weapon so they have more freedom when creating their personal zombie slayer."
