Good news owners of a Sony Xperia SP handset: it looks like you'll be receiving Android 4.4 KitKat.
Sony confirmed a number of high-tier devices earlier in November that will receive Android 4.4 KitKat, but the fact the Xperia SP will also get the shiny new update means the manufacturer is definitely paying attention to mid-range handsets as well.
Sony itself did not make the announcement — instead we have the keen eyes over at XperiaBlog to thank. After sifting through various Sony support docs, the folks over at XperiaBlog were able to determine that the Xperia SP will definitely get Android 4.4 KitKat. The same research shows that Android 4.4 KitKat for the Xperia ZR, Xperia T, Xperia TX, and Xperia V is "Under Investigation."
In early November, Sony took to its mobile blog to reveal that the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra, and Xperia Z1 are all confirmed for Android 4.4 KitKat. Sony also said in the same post that the Xperia T, Xperia TX, and Xperia V would all get a jump to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean sometime in December.
Sony has not yet released any specific dates regarding when consumers can expect Android 4.4 KitKat, although it probably won't release before December rolls around. Look for Sony to make an effort to have Android 4.4 KitKat running on some of its flagship devices before Christmas in an effort to nab some extra holiday sales.
