Samsung Galaxy S4s around the world are finally getting their first tastes of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but it looks like it won't be too long before Samsung rolls out another major update. According to a newly-leaked document, the Galaxy S4 could receive Android 4.4 KitKat in January 2014.

The information comes via a Samsung memo the folks at iTechAddict managed to get hold of. The memo, supposedly from Samsung India's R&D department, lists four devices, the Galaxy S4 among them, and estimated dates they will receive Android 4.4 KitKat. The Samsung Galaxy S4, model GT-I9500, is estimated to receive Android 4.4 KitKat in January 2014.

It's important to remember that the memo has not been confirmed by Samsung. At this point, without any official comment on the validity of the document and the information it contains, it's best to exercise skepticism, although the estimated release date does make sense. Samsung's rival, HTC, plans on having its flagship One smartphone running Android 4.4 KitKat by the end of January 2014. It would make sense for Samsung to keep pace.

The leaked document also shows that the Galaxy Note 3 will receive Android 4.4 KitKat at the same time.

Of course, there are plenty who believe that Samsung will hold off on updating the Galaxy S4 to Android 4.4 KitKat until the Galaxy S5 releases sometime during the first half of 2014. The Galaxy S5 would presumably run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, and Samsung might wait until the Galaxy S5 has had some time on the market and then push out the Android 4.4 Galaxy S4 update. Once again, however, everything's still speculation at this point.
