Production has yet to begin on Marvel's highly-anticipated "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," but director James Gunn has spoken up on the fate of several of its characters, such as Ronan, Nebula, Rocket and more, Comic Book reported.
Gunn shared the news during a Facebook Q&A held on Thursday, where he revealed that some characters were not returning, a few making a comeback and others he hoped will be able to make an appearance.
First of all, is Ronan the Accuser, who was played by Lee Pace in the original film. Pace already shared that he would love to reprise the role, but Gunn revealed that sadly, Pace and Ronan will not be back for the second film, according to Cinema Blend.
When first asked, Gunn replied, "Who knows. But not in 2, no," and when asked for the second time, he simply answered, "Perhaps someday."
He also talked about partners-in-crime Rocket Raccoon and Groot. Fans may remember that Groot seemed to have died before supposedly came back to life as a baby tree when his remains were found by Rocket, according to Digital Spy.
When asked about the baby Groot, Gunn said, "Well, who says baby Groot is Groot and not Groot's son?"
He was also asked about a love interest for Rocket, particularly Lylla the otter who was present in the comics.
"You'll have to wait and see on Lylla. But I will say I think a raccoon being sexually attracted to an otter is similar to a human being sexually attracted to a possum," Gunn wrote. "I think it's very important that Rocket is the only thing like him, which is the source of his sadness and loneliness."
He also added that an otter girlfriend might end up being "cartoony."
Gunn also revealed many weeks ago that Nebula will not be returning for the sequel, but may come back sometime in the future. He stated the same during the Q&A, according to Cinema Blend.
"Sometimes people are confused what happens to Nebula. She looks down for something to fall on, allows herself to fall on a Ravager craft and takes out the Goth Ravager inside and flies away, leaving everyone to deal with this sh*t themselves, because she's stopped caring. She will be back," Gunn replied to a fan.
Gunn also shared that he wanted Nathan Fillion to come back for the sequel. Sharp-eared fans were probably able to hear Fillion's cameo as the voice of one of the inmates. Now, Gunn reveals he wouldn't mind having his good friend come back.
The director kept mum on what direction the story will take though, but as it's still far off before filming begins, fans are hopeful to get more info about the film soon.
"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is slated to come out in May 5, 2017. The main cast members Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista and Bradley Cooper are all set to reprise their roles for the film.
