Big wrestling names will possibly be the biggest draw for the 2015 Royal Rumble when Day 1 comes on Sunday to try and stoke WWE fans.
"[It] should be one of the best pay-per-views of the year," said the International Business Times. "Not only will the event determine a participant in the main event of WrestleMania 31, but it's also expected to feature the return of several WWE superstars."
With 30 of its stars gathering and bludgeoning each other out this weekend at the wrestling ring in an annual highlight, the WWE is rumored to have contracted Sheamus and Randy Orton for a return on Sunday, both of whom have been absent for months.
The International Business Times noted that "...[b]oth wrestlers could find themselves in major storylines, upon their returns," with both possibly spoiling a win for heavy favorite Roman Reigns.
Sheamus did not tackle the possible comeback in an appearance at the backstage of RAW or during an interview with WWE, but he may be preparing for it, per What Culture.
"As for Randy Orton, he is still listed in advertising for the Rumble and the events in the week afterwards," the report added, explaining that he unofficially returned to WWE in December but that this would be the best opportunity to announce it, aside from a WWE title match.
"As one of the better workers, he could have a lengthy time in the Rumble match," What Culture said. However, the outlet predicted that since he has been out to film "Condemned 2" just before a run in with Seth Rollins, "The Viper" might be in the Final 4 at best.
The opportunity presents itself as an avenue to reinvent the Irish character, Sheamus, on the other hand, the report added, commenting that he has become "so stale and boring as a face," despite being a good wrestler.
According to the International Business Times, Sheamus' absence was mainly due to an injury. Both stars have missed the action since before the Survivor Series in November.
The report also added the Dudley Boyz of the WWE's Attitude Era and Diamond Dallas Page as possible re-entries.
Wrestler Zone reported that the two members of the Dudley Boyz, including former TNA champ and top star Bully Ray, and WWE and TNA tag team co-champ Devon are possibly working out a return, potentially complicating the Royal Rumble scene. The two are no longer bound to a contract with TNA after a reunion in 2014.
The International Business Times noted, however: "It's unknown if the two former stars ... will enter into the Royal Rumble."
Former WCW star Page, another report noted, may be included in the 30-man lineup. However, he is also in a mini-tour for "The Resurrection of Jake 'The Snake'" this weekend, making it almost impossible.
The International Business Times continued to report that Rob Van Dam could be fighting for at least one night, after last appearing in the summer and an on-and-off participation since Money in the Bank in 2013. Bo Dallas, too, could return after an injury in the second half of 2014.
Meanwhile, 2014 Royal Rumble winner Batista might be out this year.
