The Xbox One has had a fairly successful launch, but much like the PlayStation 4, there have been reports of some hardware problems arising for a few users. Specifically, some users are reporting that the console's disk drive is not working, and Microsoft does not have a solution for this problem at this time.
Kotaku is reporting that it has received over 100 emails from users reporting that the Xbox One is unable to read disks inserted into the machine, as the Blu-ray disk drive will make grinding noises when a disk is inserted. It is unclear if this so-called "Disk Drive of Doom" error is widespread enough to be considered a major technical flaw, or if these users are in the minority. Videos are already surfacing showing the error in action, such as the video seen below. Microsoft sent one statement clarifying that they will take care of any and all problems that arise during this critical period for the Xbox One:
"We know that with a hardware launch of this magnitude customers will have questions and we have many avenues for customers to get the answers they need and get back in the game as soon as possible. Rest assured we plan to take care of our customers. Any customer who believes they are experiencing an issue with their Xbox One should reach out to us."
An addition statement from Microsoft also claims that this error only affects a small number of users among the million or so people that have already bought the console:
"The issue is affecting a very small number of Xbox One customers. We're working directly with those affected to get a replacement console to them as soon as possible through our advance exchange program. Rest assured, we are taking care of our customers."
Microsoft is not alone in having some flaws of its new console exposed, as the Sony PlayStation 4 also had some problems reported after launch. For example, many reported the "Blue Line of Death," which was a problem where the console would shut down mysteriously. Many users also reported that the HDMI outlet was buggy, with a small piece of metal sticking up in the port, causing the video outlet to not work. However, users managed to solve that problem themselves by bending the metal into place and then putting the HDMI cable into the port, thus flattening out the metal permanently.
