The Weinstein Company released the official trailer of its upcoming animated comedy film "Underdogs," which marks the big screen debut of singer Ariana Grande as she voices the film's main heroine Laura, J-14 reported.
According to the film's synopsis, posted on Indiewire, "Underdogs" tells the story of Jake, a shy and talented foosball player who's in love with the free-spirited Laura. With Laura's encouragement, Jake stands up to Ace, the town bully, and managed to beat him in a foosball game. However, Ace ends up becoming the best soccer player in the world and when he returned years later, he decided to turn their village into a sports stadium.
Ace starts destroying their village and even kidnaps Laura, even challenging Jake into a real soccer match. While Jake was torn over what to do, he finds out that the toy figures on his foosball table have come to life. With the help of his toy foosball team, Jake sets out to stop Ace, save Laura and hopefully save his village.
The "Underdogs" official trailer was released by The Weinstein Company on Friday. It introduced the voices of Grande as Laura, "Glee" star Matthew Morrison as Jake, "X-Men" actor Nicholas Hoult as Ace, and "Shake It Up" star Bella Thorne as the younger version of Laura. Katie Holmes, Eugenio Derbez and John Leguizamo are also included in the voice cast.
"This talented cast takes our script and enhances it with brilliant improvisations and wonderful chemistry. I'm so proud of these super talented actors and comedians," said The Weinstein Company co-chairman Harvey Weinstein, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The animated film is helmed by Academy Award winner Juan Jose Campanella. He is known for the Best Foreign Language film "The Secret in our Eyes," the Argentinian mini-series "The Man Of Your Dreams," several episodes of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and more, according to Indiewire.
