The potential record-breaking showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr could still happen, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum said recently.

In an interview with Boxnation, Arum said that Top Rank--under which Pacquiao is signed to--is very willing to negotiate with Mayweather's camp for a potential showdown, which is expected to be the biggest money fight in the history of boxing.

The Mayweather vs Pacquiao showdown was set to happen two to three years ago, but negotiations broke down due to the demands of both camps. But this time, Arum said that he is very determined to make the fight happen--which, he said, would probably be in 2014.

"On our side the answer is yes [the fight can be made in 2014], we're very open to it," Arum said. "There are ways it can get done, they have to dumb down the rhetoric, we are prepared to dumb down the rhetoric and get it done. There is no real impediment to having that fight happen whether it will or not depends completely on the Mayweather side. I can see it happening but I can't predict that it will happen because it takes two to tango."

The fight purse split and drug testing demands were the main reasons why the two camps failed to arrange the blockbuster showdown before. Aside from the purse and drug testing rule, another potential huge stumbling block is the U.S. TV issue.

Top Rank fights are tied to HBO, while Mayweather recently signed a lucrative multi-million six-fight deal with Showtime late last year. When asked about the issue, Arum said that it has been done before, citing the bout between Lenox Lewis and Mike Tyson.

"You've got to go back in history when Lennox Lewis, who fought for HBO, fought against Mike Tyson, who was a Showtime fighter. Both networks participated in the promotion so that's a road map of how we get this thing done," Arum said.

Pacquiao is set to face Brandon Rios on Saturday at the Cotai Arena in Macau. A convincing win from Pacquiao can make the Mayweather showdown possible, while a loss could completely rule out the fight between two of best boxers in history.
