Vine, the video sharing app that allows users to record and share six second videos, will add 19 new languages to it's service in a bid to make the app more internationally friendly. This news was revealed in a blog post by the company.

Both the iOS and Android versions of the app will now be available in the following languages: Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Thai and Turkish. In addition to these languages, the Android version of Vine will have Filipino and Polish available.

In the post Vine put over the ability of the video app to communicate with users so simply and how this update will help the Vine community expand to a global phenomenon like Twitter and Youtube:

"Now, it's even easier for people around the world to watch and share posts that make us laugh, teach us something new or help us find out what's happening in the world. We're also beginning to explore ways to surface Vine videos that are popular in a particular country. Wherever you are in the world -- be it Japan, Brazil or somewhere in between -- we hope this update makes it easier for you to discover and create videos that bring us all closer together."

Vines, for those who do not know, are six second videos that users can share amongst friends or the greater Vine community. Users have used this app for a variety of different types of videos, such as small comedy skits or videos of people failing at activities. This shortness of the videos allows users to quickly digest the content, and the videos will automatically repeat for added emphases.

It will be interesting to see how well the app is able to translate to international markets. Part of the appeal of the videos is that many users are able to deliver quick punch line in nonverbal forms, so that could help the app gain an international following. In addition, many users are able to make six second jokes with heavy special effects that simply are not possible on longer forms of media such as Youtube.

Vine did not release what number of users of the app that reside outside the United States, so it remains to be seen if this is a move to solidify an existing fan base or if the app is looking to just grow in general.
