The direction of the film adaption of "Fifty Shades of Grey" would have taken an entirely different direction if it was up to Mark Wahlberg.
On Thursday, the 42-year-old actor and producer revealed in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter's Producers Roundtable that he had his eyes and hopes set on producing the highly anticipated erotic film.
"We were aware of the book very early on, and we were close to securing the rights, and then we get into this bidding war," said Wahlberg, adding that he almost fired his assistant Ari Emanuel when he failed to secure a producing role in the movie.
"I almost fired my agent Ari over [Fifty Shades] -- not because I wanted to play the part," said Walhberg. He also revealed that he would have cast Brad Pitt to play the leading role of Christian Grey.
When the film's current producer Michael DeLuca of "The Social Network" suggested that Wahlberg had a similiar appearance to the character Christian Grey, Wahlberg responded saying, "No, sounds like Brad Pitt to me."
Also present at the roundtable discussion was De Luca who gave insight into why the original Christian, Charlie Hunnam, didn't work out.
"In terms of schedule, to be free from Sons of Anarchy in time to show up on the set of our movie, the physical transformation and the psychological transformation from Jax to Christian Grey was more than he could accomplish in the time that we had," Michael explained.
Negotiations went "down to the wire," he said.
Jamie Dornan has been cast play the movie's male lead, reports Entertainment Wise.
