Some may have expected LG's G4 to arrive in last week's Consumer Electronics Show. Unfortunately, the device didn't turn up, but the company graced its audience with something else, something curvy for that matter -- the LG G Flex 2.

The new smartphone appears to be promising in many notable ways. In this article, we've organized the essential differences between the LG G Flex 2 and its predecessor.

Design: Still Curved, But with a Magical Twist

The G Flex 2 brings the same, signature 700R (700mm) curvature, wrote Phone Arena. While this may be expected, one interesting feature of the handset's physical body is its "self-healing" technology. We're talking about scratches inflicted on the device's back cover, which magically disappear in a matter of ten seconds.

LG brands the G Flex line as the "Shape of Innovation." Clearly, the device's form should speak for this. According to the company, the G Flex has been designed to follow the curvature of its users' faces. When put in landscape, the smartphone appears to be an excellent viewing and gaming companion (much like a miniature of Samsung's curved TVs).

Display: Smaller and Clearer

The new G Flex comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD P-OLED (Plastic-OLED) display, ZDNet reported. This screen houses a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, with a density of 403 ppi.

Now this is one obvious difference users can readily see, as the original G Flex came with a 6.0-inch HD display. Although it's also P-OLED, the model packed a lesser resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, having a density of 245 ppi. Needless to say, LG has recognized the need to trim down on a larger smartphone for a smaller, clearer fit.

Processor, RAM & Operating System: A First in History

Another surprising inclusion of the G Flex 2 is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chip. Why?

As Phone Arena put it, the device is the first handset to pack the processor -- ultimately becoming the pilot Android 5.0 Lollipop smartphone to sport a 64-bit architecture. LG has certainly done its part in history through the G Flex 2.

G Flex 2's processor runs at a clock speed of 2.0GHz. It comes with 2 GB (16 GB version) and 3 GB (32 GB version) of RAM.

Predecessor G Flex packed Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 processor, clocked at 2.26 GHz. Its platform is Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. The device has 2 GB of RAM for its 32 GB model.

Camera: OIS+ Support

In terms of photography, the new G Flex may not be entirely new, as it also packed the same 13 MP main camera and 2.1 MP front snapper as its parent. However, it's rear clicker had OIS+ support (with laser auto-focus), ZDNet wrote.

Power: Faster Charging, Longer-Lasting

The G FLex 2 is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery. According to Phone Arena, this type is non user-removable, but it's capable of generating "0 to 50 percent in about 40 minutes."

The outlet added that the model's 1080p screen puts it at an advantage over other flagships, which could be battling out in resolution pixels. Naturally, the heavier the pixels, the faster the device's battery is drained.

The original G Flex had a 3,500 mAh Li-Polymer battery.

Release Date & Price: Cheaper Than Predecessor?

GSMArena reported that the G Flex 2 is available to preorder in Amazon Germany, for a retail price of €599. That's around $700 as of press time (converted by Google Finance).

It appears to be cheaper than the original G Flex, which came at €850 in the "first days of its availability," GSM Arena added.

No specific shipping date has been set at present.
