Hugh Jackman, one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, revealed Thursday that he has been treated for skin cancer.

The 45-year-old actor, who is best known for his leading role as Wolverine in the "X-Men" movies, credits his wife of 17 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, for urging him to get a suspicious looking mark on his nose examined by a doctor.

After undergoing treatment, he shared the news by posting a photo of himself on Instagram with a bandage on his nose. Under the photo, he wrote, "Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a basil cell carcinoma. Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!"

Although it is unclear exactly when Jackman had the procedure done, the Huffington Post notes that he took a week-long break from Instagram last week. He broke his hiatus by posting a video of himself dancing on Wednesday and a shot of the TV screen on Thursday.

Jackman  was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, which usually appears as a red or pale lump. However, it is not considered the most dangerous form of skin cancer.

The Skin Cancer Foundation states that basal cell carcinomas "are abnormal, uncontrolled growths or lesions ... [which] often look like open sores, red patches, pink growths, shiny bumps, or scars. Only in exceedingly rare cases can BCC spread to other parts of the body and become life-threatening."

Jackman's rep told The HuffPo that there are "no additional details" concerning his diagnosis, "other than confirming the accuracy of his post."
