If you thought of Apple as the only tech giant having an insatiable taste for the slimmest of devices, Samsung is ready to take its place. Meet the Galaxy A7, the company's latest and thinnest smartphone to date, Android Central reported.

As told by the outlet, the Galaxy A7 is aimed at a younger audience, packing that sleek, metal unibody in the image above. It is reported to be the largest device in the Galaxy A series.

The Galaxy A7 is 6.3 mm thin -- 0.2 mm thicker than Apple's iPad Air 2. Android Central added that it is offered in single- and dual-SIM variants, both of which sport LTE connectivity and octa-core processors. The single-SIM comes with a 32-bit Exynos 5430 chipset (four Cortex A15 cores at 1.8 GHz and four Cortex A7 cores at 1.3 GHz), while the dual-SIM has a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 SoC (eight Cortex A53 cores: four at 1.5 GHz and four at 1.0 GHz).

Gizmodo took note of more Galaxy A7 specs, which include 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and a 2,600mAh battery. In terms of display, the handset comes with a 5.5-inch FHD sAMOLED screen. It weighs 141 g.

The smartphone packs a 13 MP main camera (AF with LED flash), while its front snapper shoots at 5 MP. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC are supported.

Other features listed by Samsung include Ultra Power Saving Mode, Changeable Theme (Natural, Classic, Casual, Romantic), Private Mode, Multi Screen, Quick Connect, Wide Selfie, Rear-cam Selfie and Beauty Face. Accelerometer, Proximity, Geomagnetic, RGB, Hall and Light sensors will also be packed.

A certain "Always Clear Voice Auto Control" has also been cited by TechCrunch, which appears to be Samsung's attempt in reducing background noise during calls. Multiple screen support for applications and a seemingly upgraded private mode were also mentioned.

As to the idea of the device being the thinnest smartphone ever, prospects may have to be turned down. Android Advices recently took note of the Vivo X5 Max, a Chinese-brand handset that dethroned Oppo R5 (4.85 mm) for the world record. Vivo X5 Max is 4.75 mm thick.

No official launch date has been announced at present, TechCrunch noted. The outlet cited earlier reports which set the device's price at $420, off contract. But of course, we'll have to hear Samsung's official word to confirm.
