The Xbox One has officially been relesed, and like the PlayStation 4 console on Nov. 15, plenty of hijinks and other madness has emerged during the new console's launch. Here are the highlights of the Xbox One launch.
Before the console was even available, the machine managed to make waves when a fleet of armored cars arrived in Manhattan in New York City to deliver Xbox One consoles to their destinations. A Reddit User managed to grab a picture of the trucks as they rolled down the street. The armored trucks had special details indicating exactly what the cargo on the massive trucks was. In addition, one of the truck driver's showed off his ride in a Twitter picture. Microsoft's Major Nelson also showed off a picture of the armored trucks, stating that their destination was the Best Buy Theater.
While the launch was going on, many different media outlets had live coverage of different launch events across the country. One memorable coverage goof happened during Spike TV's live broadcast. According to Kotaku, host Geoff Keighley attempted to switch the broadcast over to the Los Angeles location using the Xbox One voice commands. When he stated "Xbox, go to Los Angeles" nothing happened for several awkward seconds, leading to GIFs beginning to appear on the Internet. Perhaps Keighley should have looked up the dozens of voice commands the Kinect will respond to before trying them out on live television.
While all this was going on, the Japanese comedy group Megwin TV decided to poke fun at a Xbox One launch party in a unique way. One of the members of the troupe decided to try to crash the event dressed as the Dualshock 4 controller, leading to many stares from people outside the event. While at first the man was unsuccessful, he eventually managed to get a laminated pass for the event from someone. However, despite the new credentials, the man was unable to make it into the party as the bouncer turned him away at the door.
It will be interesting to see if these stories are the only hijinks that come with the Xbox One launch, or if things take a darker turn at some point. The PlayStation 4 launch was marred somewhat after news of a sale gone wrong ended up with a man being murdered and another hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
