Filming for the upcoming "James Bond" film titled "Spectre" has been delayed in Rome.
Entertainment Weekly reported the news, saying that the city officials at Rome have denied the producers' request to film a car chase that would pass the Quattro Fontane, or Four Fountains.
"We have not authorized the sequence at the Quattro Fontane because it is too fragile in terms of architecture," Federica Galloni, a cultural heritage official in Rome, told the local newspaper Il Messaggero, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
According to the news outlet, the Four Fountains monument is currently undergoing restoration, "which would conflict with the reported plan to film in February." Galloni and other city officials in Rome have also requested the production unit of "Spectre" to recreate the car chase scene with special effects "so that the structural integrity of the Four Fountains can be preserved."
"At the moment the scene has been suspended, and we're waiting for the producers to tell us how they intend to resolve the problem," Galloni said, The Telegraph reported. The sequence was supposed to feature James Bond or a stuntman driving past the monument and jumping over an obstacle. Filming will move to Rome on February 19 and is expected to last for five weeks.
This is not the first inconvenience to delay the filming of "Spectre." According to the news outlet, producers had to submit all the weapons to be featured in the upcoming film to Italian laboratories due to "costly independent testing," which is to ensure that the modified weapons would only shoot blanks. This is because of a new law that Italy is trying to adopt.
However, the pressure from the Italian film industry made the government consent "to postpone the implementation of the new regulations until December," The Telegraph noted.
Filming of "Spectre," slated for release in theaters on November 6, 2015, was also delayed due to the movie's script being leaked as a result of the Sony hack. Entertainment Weekly also reported that "nine cars set to be used in filming were stolen."
'Spectre' Cast News and Production
Daniel Craig will reprise his role as James Bond or Agent 007 in "Spectre." The film will also star Christoph Waltz as Oberhauser, Bond's German-accented foe, according to Forbes. Lea Seydoux, Dave Bautista, Andrew Scott, and Monica Bellucci are also included in the film.
Scott, known for portraying Moriarty role in the BBC series "Sherlock," will play as MI5 employee Denbigh, The Hollywood Reporter stated. Bellucci and Seydoux are the new Bond girls, portraying the roles of Lucia Sciarra and Madeleine Swann, respectively.
"Spectre" will once again be directed by "Skyfall" director Sam Mendes, with the screenplay written by John Logan, Neal Purvis, and Robert Wade, ComingSoon.net reported.
