More than a year after announcing Paul Rudd as the next "Ant-man" the visible-without-the-microscope trailer is already here, and according to Rolling Stone, it is presented as a heist film in a superhero saga.

But why release the teaser during another hyped-Marvel premiere release? With the excitement for Marvel's "Agent Carter," wouldn't a months-off film be underwhelmed?

It did just that, and unfortunately, as Slash Film pointed out, fan reactions to the trailer were mixed, noting that it lacked the usual effort that Marvel puts in for its superhero franchises. The website especially pointed out that the Michael Douglas voiceover "set a surprisingly ponderous tone" paired with a "generic" action score.

A review from Comic Book Movie shared Slash Film's sentiments, adding that the trailer failed in a sense that it was "underwhelming" and "uninspired", in the end scoring it a 7 out of 10, as it was not horrendous, but it's nothing special either.

The Hollywood Reporter also noted that while its formula is definitely up there with the "Avengers," the entire trailer did not feel like it's a Marvel production at all, with fans likening it to a more Warner/DC project.

Like Slash Film, THR also pointed out a flaw in the soundtrack of "Ant-Man", something that their 2014 hit, "Guardians of the Galaxy" has proved to be important with their "Hooked on a Feeling" track, and "Age of Ultron" trailer making a creepy version of "I've Got No Strings" from Pinocchio. So what is it with the very forgettable score?

The Rolling Stones also noted that the film, cannot avoid similarities to "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids". The report added that Rudd's casting was considered one of Marvel's boldest decisions, but his involvement is also among the reasons why it will still somehow become a hit in the box office.

What sets "Ant-Man" apart from the usual heroes is that he's reportedly a good guy who never was that good in the first place. He spent time in prison due to petty theft and is considered an ex-com. Entertainment Weekly has pointed out that he can become a super villain just as easily as when he became a superhero.

"Ant-Man" will be released in theaters on July 17 and stars Rudd as the miniscule hero, Michael Douglas as Dr. Henry Pym, Evangeline Lilly as Pym's daughter Hope Van Dyne, and Corey Stoll as Darren Cross, the film's antagonist, Yellowjacket.
