As some reports claim, Apple will probably announce the next generation MacBook Air as early as March this year.
According to Air Herald, a blogger named Jack March maintained that the MacBook Air 2 could come in at a 12-inch size, which is between the 11 and 13 inches sizes of the laptops already available in the market. The device may be available in multiple colors: gold, silver, and gray, which is similar to the color schemes of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
Technology Tell pointed out that a gold-colored MacBook Air 2 may not be as appealing as the iPad Air 2, which also comes in that color. Space gray, black, or the Apple silver would probably suit that MacBook Air 2 best.
The device is also rumored to have the high quality Retina display, but Air Herald reported that there are still mixed claims about the device's processor.
"One camp says they're aiming for Intel's new Core M processor, which will allow room for the device's sleek design, the removal of the fan and the use of a bigger battery to accommodate for the more powerful display," the news outlet noted. However, the Core M processor wasn't that impressive and it could be a setback for the MacBook Air, if the rumors are to be believed that the laptop will use the processor.
There is also a report published by Mac World claiming that the new MacBook Air "will launch in mid-2015, perhaps making an appearance at WWDC 2015," which is quite far-off from Air Herald's report that the device would come out in March.
Mac World also stated that Intel announced a press release about the arrival of its new Core M chip, which, as we mentioned earlier, could be used in the new MacBook Air. Other manufacturers already using the chip are Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Toshiba. According to the news outlet, the companies' gadgets possessing the Core M will be available in the market in October,
However, Mac World noted that there are also reports claiming that the new MacBook Air will not use the Core M chip, but the Intel Core i5 Broadwell processor instead. The gadget was also rumored to feature "thin bezels with a keyboard that stretches to the edge of the laptop."
The MagSafe port will also get a redesign because the MacBook Air's chassis will be too thin to accommodate the MagSafe charger. The news outlet reported that Apple had to switch "to a new reversible USB Type C connector which is significantly smaller than USB 3 (it's 8.4x2.6mm)."
These are all rumors for now. Apple fans should still have to wait for an official announcement from the company regarding the new MacBook Air Retina.
