"Game of Thrones" will be the first ever TV series to be shown in theaters using the IMAX treatment.

According to Variety, HBO and IMAX have partnered to give the hit fantasy drama a cinematic touch. The final episodes of the fourth season, as well as an exclusive full-length trailer for Season 5, will be available for viewing on January 23-29 at 150 top theaters across the U.S.

Ticketing information for the special event could be viewed on the IMAX website in the coming weeks.

IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond said that the company's partnership with HBO coincides with their goal to provide viewers an exceptional experience, The Hollywood Reporter stated.

"IMAX always seeks innovative ways to provide moviegoers a unique and differentiated experience, and today's partnership with HBO and 'Game of Thrones' achieves just that," Gelfond said, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. "This deal also furthers our efforts to offer exhibitors the opportunity to participate in alternative forms of content in a new and exciting way. As part of our broader strategy, we will continue to look for one-of-a-kind ways to provide consumers with special IMAX experiences."

The two episodes which are being digitally remastered into the IMAX format are "The Watchers on the Wall" and the season four finale "The Children." These episodes are deemed "among the series' most ambitious," the news outlet noted. The epic battle scenes featured on "The Watchers on the Wall" was compared to some scenes of Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings."

"I directed it to be very cinematic. I wanted it to be epic and to shoot to that scope," said Neil Marshall, the director of "The Watchers on the Wall", as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.

Variety reported that IMAX has previously stated that they are planning to reach out on other avenues beyond the usual Hollywood tropes. This is to further enhance "innovative content distribution opportunities." Pamela Levine, chief marketing officer of HBO, said that IMAX will provide fans new and exciting ways to watch "Game of Thrones."

"The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the Imax format," Levine said, as quoted by Variety. "We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event."

The fifth season of "Game of Thrones" will premiere at a still unspecified date in April, Variety noted.
