We already saw Hayley Atwell as Agent Penny Carter in "Captain America" and "Captain America: Winter Soldier," but her performance in the new show, "Marvel's Agent Carter" proves that she can stand without the glow of the superheroes and hold on her own.

In the new series, E! News pointed out that ABC's new series is not something you can write off, because the prequel to Captain America and the rest of the Marvel series is everything you can want from a show, which is a strong, capable female hero devoid of superpowers, but kicks butt just as well.

In fact, according to the Wall Street Journal, the best part of the show is Hayley's portrayal of the Agent.

"Marvel's Agent Carter" takes place before the events of the first Captain America film, and Peggy, who just lost the love of her life, is fresh in mourning. A promise from Atwell says that the show will focus on the agent saving the day in spite of having a broken heart.

She told the website, "His absence is very strong and prevalent in her life. He was a dominating force in her life. There are things that happen that are immediately and completely linked to him and she'll be constantly reminded of him."

For Captain America fans, this could be good news, the cap could probably guest in some episodes during flashbacks.

Atwell is not the only one who shone in the series premiere. The show, according to Entertainment Weekly, had a "dynamite supporting cast," with "One Tree Hilll" alum Chad Michael Murray as an office rival, and Enver Gjokaj as a love interest.

However, besides the cast and the more complex characters, it seems that "Agent Carter" will have to push boundaries to make sure that the series does not tank, as it is very similar to much of what happens in the Avengers universe, with Entertainment Weekly pointing out that the entire first hour suffers too many film referrals.

However, there is still time for the story to unfold, as there will be eight episodes for the series. Atwell is also excited for the fate of her character, telling E! News that, "I'm excited for everyone to see her vulnerability and her humor more than anything else. She really is a three-dimensional character with real flaws that people can relate to. She's going to be humanized."

Have you watched the premiere of "Marvel's Agent Carter"? What did you think of it, and are you going to continue on watching the show?
