The Android 5.0 Lollipop update is currently rolling out for the Galaxy S5 in select countries, Gotta Be Mobile reported. Previously, we took note of an anonymous rep (via Reddit) who revealed the Korean tech giant's intention to push Lollipop among its Galaxy devices.
Following the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S4 are expected to receive Android's latest OS, respectively.
However, Galaxy Note 3 users appear to have some advantage at this point, thanks to a Lollipop build leak cited at the XDA-Developers forum site. As its being "official" may not be guaranteed, prospects are encouraged to proceed with caution when attempting installation.
Note that the build is specifically aimed for the Galaxy Note 3's SM-N9005 model, International Business Times pointed. According to Android Community, the leak was said to come from a certain "N9505XXUGBNL8" software bundle. It takes 1.1 GB of storage space, and at the time of reporting, most features were noted to work.
A short tutorial on flashing was provided by mithun46 at the XDA forum (link above). Aside from the build and the exact Note 3 model, Odin (3.09) for PC and a backup of PIT files will be needed for the process. The latter, as you may have guessed it, serves as a safeguard just in case untoward incidents happen along the way.
Below is an overview of steps needed to get Lollipop into Note 3 (adopted from IBT):
1. Download the firmware package here. Extract the ROM zip file.
2. Download Odin v3.09 if you don't have it yet. Extract the zip file.
3. Run Odin3 v3.09 as Administrator.
4. Reboot your Galaxy Note 3 (Download Mode). Do this by (1) pressing and (2) holding three buttons: Volume Down, Power and Home.
5. Message prompt pops up.
6. Press Volume Up to enter into Download Mode.
7. Connect device to PC (via USB cable).
8. Open the Odin window and tick specific boxes, as shown here (32 GB model) and here (16 GB model).
9. Click "Start" in Odin to begin flashing process.
10. Process is completed when a "PASS!" prompt appears in the ID:COM port.
11. The device automatically restarts.
12. IBT suggested that the device may be plugged off from the computer after the Samsung logo shows up.
13. Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 now runs Android 5.0 Lollipop N9005XXUGBNL8.
Flashing unofficial builds is a very technical process, and we always encourage prospects to wait for official OTA updates. Should you wish to proceed, Latino Post will not be responsible for unlikely occurrences that may arise from such attempt. Again, backing up of files is always recommended.
