After beating Daniel Cormier via unanimous decision on Saturday at UFC 182, Jon Jones continued to express how much he dislikes the fighter.
"He's only human. DC, all the haters, all the crap he talked -- he motivated me. I took him down, what, five takedowns to zero? Sorry I'm being classless right now. I don't like DC, and that's why I'm being this way," Jones was quoted by Sports World News as saying.
Cormier was a bit calmer when he addressed questions after the fight at the MGM Grand Garden, Sports World News added.
"I can't say enough about his grit and determination. pushed him and I went after him. I fought him. He did a great job. I've had to rebuild myself numerous times. People can't even imagine. I'm going to stand across the cage from that man again and I will believe, just as I did tonight, and I'll take the fight to him again," Jones said.
Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports noted that Jones out-wrestled the two-time Olympic wrestler. Cormier is reportedly a tough fighter to beat as he has never been taken down in his entire career but Jones was able to do that a few times during the match. It would have been a different outcome if the fight was done at close range. Cormier could have easily taken down his opponent, Iole added.
Cormier actually landed several punches on Jones including uppercuts that did hurt the latter especially at the end of rounds, Yahoo Sports added. But he admitted that he lacked something during the fight.
"I just couldn't find my rhythm tonight. Jon is the best for a reason and he was the better man tonight," he said.
Deadspin, on the other hand, noted that Cormier was disappointed with his performance that his voice started to crack down in an interview after the match. "I've had to rebuild myself a number of times like people can't even imagine. And this is no different."
He saw his fight with Jones as a possible culmination of his 20-year career in the UFC but it was still short and he was not able to show the best of his abilities during the fight.
After his fight with Cormier, Jones may face whoever wins in the match between Anthony Johnson or Alexander Gustafsson, Deadspin added.
On the other hand, the future isn't bright for Cormier after his devastating loss. As Deadspin put it, "This was, realistically, Cormier's last chance at winning."
