"Pirates of the Caribbean 5" Release Date, Cast, & Plot Details

The fifth installment of the Disney movie franchise, titled "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," will once again star Johnny Depp as the titular character Captain Jack Sparrow. Geoffrey Rush will also reprise his role as Captain Barbosa, while Javier Bardem will portray the main villain in the movie, Cinema Blend reports.

Brenton Thwaites will also star as the British soldier Henry, who will team up with Captain Sparrow, the news outlet noted. Thwaites' love interest in the film is still unconfirmed, but there are reports that Disney is currently eyeing five actresses for the role, including Jenna Thiam, Lucy Boynton of "Miss Potter," Gabriella Wilde of "Endless Love," Kaya Scodelario of "The Maze Runner," and Alexandra Dowling of "The Musketeers."

Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg will direct "Pirates of the Caribbean 5." The two first signed on for the film back in May 2013 and planned to start filming not long after that. Prduction, however, was delayed until Disney announced that the movie will premiere in theaters on July 7, 2017, according to Cinema Blend.

There are also reports that Orlando Bloom, who portrayed the role of Will Turner in the first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, will come back on the fifth installment to reprise his role. IGN reports that Bloom first expressed interest on "Pirates 5" back in September last year. He last starred in 2011's "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," opposite Depp and Keira Knightley.

"There have certainly been some discussions about it and I'm open to it," the actor told IGN. "That whole experience working with Johnny [Depp] and (director) Gore (Verbinski) was really amazing for me. I had a great time working with Johnny, one of the reasons I jumped at the opportunity was because Johnny was involved."
