A new trailer for the fifth season of "The Walking Dead" has been released, and it's sure to give fans an anticipatory thrill.

The promotional video showed the human survivors of the zombie drama, featuring Daryl (Norman Reedus), Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Glenn (Steven Yeun), Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam), and others. The trailer also featured Michonne discussing a new and safe place for the group to take refuge in, instead of "just making it," ComicBook.com reports. Rick was overheard telling her, "We'll be OK, because this is how we survive."

AMC's popular zombie drama is no stranger to character deaths. In the midseason finale, Beth (Emily Kinney) died tragically in the hands of Grady Memorial leader Dawn Lerner. So fans are anxious that the second half of Season 5 will say goodbye to another main character.

Showrunner Scott Gimple talked to Zap2it to discuss what's in store for the rest of the gang in the future episodes. According to Gimple, "The Walking Dead" will explore darker themes in the remaining episodes of Season 5.

"Things are going to get very dark -- even darker -- before our characters have to face -- and they really do have to face -- the possibility of light, of optimism, of hope. Where they are emotionally and even circumstantially may make them not so great at recognizing the possibilities of hope," he said, as reported by Zap2it.

Gimple also went on to discuss Beth's and the other characters' deaths. He said that it's not easy for them to lose the characters on the show, and that the deaths leave a "vacancy." But he also stressed out that it's completely a part of the zombie drama's story.

"This is a series that is in a world where characters are dealing with things being taken away from them, the audience has things being taken away from them, we as writers, producers, creators have things getting taken away from them," Gimple told Zap2it.

"It's very, very hard, and it always feels very funny/weird the day after we lose a character on the show. You feel that vacancy on the show, and you know the audience is in pain about it, and that's not fun. I hate that people are so hurt by it, but so are the characters and so are we and it's absolutely a part of the story," he added, as reported by the news outlet.

Gimple also said that the events which transpired in the first half of Season 5 -- and in the past seasons, as well -- will put Rick to take on a tougher approach to potential threats to his group. He revealed that Rick will be more aggressive and darker, according to The Hollywood Reporter

"The Walking Dead" returns on February 8, according to AMC.
